Poll Reveals the Top Motivations for Social Networking

A recent Miller Heiman poll shows that, of sales professionals using social networking sites, the majority are using these sites to support business development activities. But, not everyone is doing it. Not yet. Nearly half of poll respondents indicated they do not use social networking sites. This percentage is likely to decrease rapidly as more sales professionals recognize the potential these networking sites hold for prospecting, connecting with clients, and keeping in touch with professional contacts.

The benefits of social networking are resonating with more and more individuals as they're seeing greater visibility into key contacts' histories and building credibility through gathering recommendations from associates and colleagues. Your contacts can also make requesting an audience with key individuals easier, as an actively expanding professional network increases your options for referrals. In such an uncertain economy, breaking out of the prospecting box might be worth the time and effort to show customers yet another way you are connecting with them on their current challenges.
